I am a huge fan of using reusable shopping bags both in the RV and at home. But I find them kind of disorganized because I end up finding random shopping bags in their little pouches everywhere in the RV except where I need them to be when I’m heading to the grocery store. And they just seemed to add to the clutter in a tiny RV. But for me, not using reusable grocery bags was not an option, not to mention that some places have banned plastic bags.
I like to keep all my shopping bags together so I can quickly grab them when I’m heading out the door, and my previous solution was simply stashing them all into a ziplock bag and tossing that into my grocery cart.
I’m a big fan of The Container Store, and as an RV owner, who isn’t? But I discovered the best thing for organizing reusable grocery bags a few years ago because this set of bags comes with its own pouch for storing the bags in.
You simply stuff the bags into the pod and take the whole pod with you to the store. Then when you are at the checkout, simply use as many bags as you’d like. It is also so nice not to have to individually remove shopping bags from their own individual pocket or stuff sack. Just pull each one out and they are ready to fill with groceries.
These are really thick grocery bags as well, these aren’t the standard thin nylon of regular reusable grocery bags – they are tested to hold up to 50 lbs! You can definitely overstuff them, especially if you have things like canned goods or bottled water you need to carry. I’ve never had one rip, and while I have never stuffed one to 50 obs, it doesn’t surprise me at all that it can stand it.
Also, these bags are completely machine washable, might have been through countless times, and they still have the same bright colour as when I bought them. I have both green and blue, I do wish they came in a nice hot pink though.
The pod also has a clip on it so you can clip it to your shopping cart. I usually just toss it in my purse (which also helps prevent me from forgetting to bring them into the store, because who hasn’t done that a few times!)
You can buy them in a 10 bag pack (in spring green, Caribbean blue, saffron yellow and cayenne red)

Or in a 5 bag pack (also in spring green, Caribbean blue, saffron yellow and cayenne red)

I personally prefer the 10-pack since I tend to do one major grocery shopping trip rather than multiple smaller ones. If you buy multiple pod packs, you can also re-stuff more into a single pod if you wish.
I simply hang the pod by the door to the RV so I remember to grab them before I head out where I need bags.
If you already have a supply of bags, you can do the same idea by putting them into a zip bag you can pick up at the dollar store to store them in, and bonus if the bag has a clip so you can store them by the door too.
If you like to use produce bags as well, there is also a set of produce bags that store up in its own bag as well. The bags are color coordinated for the size of each bag, so you can easily grab each bag as you need it.
- PRACTICAL, STYLISH, ECO FRIENDLY – 3 generous, color-coded sizes...
Do you pick up bottles of wine or liquor?
There are even reusable bags for carrying bottles of wine – and they are much safer in these types of bags than putting a few into a regular grocery bag where they knock together.
Also, if you need something bigger, or need to transport something a bit bigger in a wagon but don’t want it to get dirty, there are always the tried and true IKEA Frakta bags.
