The one downside is that it can often seem like if you are looking for a specific item, they will never have it. Some items seem to be standard and are always available, while other items seem to be something that is periodically available because they got a goo deal. So it is sometimes easier to keep a list of items you need for a first aid kit, and just keep your eye out when you are there.
Sometimes dollar stores vary as well. For example, some dollar stores carry name brand medications, such as Advil and Tylenol, while others only carry generics. So keep that in mind if you prefer brand name medications.
Also, consider the smaller medication packs too, rather than full bottles. They handle temperature fluctuations a bit better. And you can keep a couple packs in a handier location, while the rest are with the rest of the first aid supplies. I also prefer the sanitary reasons for these as well, especially if you are often camping with groups.
If you can’t find them at your local dollar store, here are the Advil & Tylenol packs I buy – they are often cheaper on Amazon.
- Two packs of 50 Advil Pain Reliever and Fever Reducer Coated Tablets,...
- 100-count (50-packets, 2 caplets each) of Tylenol Extra Strength Pain...
Pepto Bismol can also be handy if you or someone in your family gets an upset stomach too.
Are you setting up an RV first aid kit for the first time? I find it can often be easier to buy a premade kit, especially since it includes the container, and then use the dollar store to add to it and replenish used items.
This one is probably the most popular for RV use, since it is meant for outdoor use, so you will find some items that tend to be missing from household first aid kits.
- ESSENTIAL FIRST-AID KIT - At home or on the road, our convenient first...
In addition to my large first aid kit, I also keep a smaller one that is more easily accessible for the most common uses, and it can also be used for a day trip, such as if you are at a State Park and want to go for a hike. You will need to add medication to this one.
