Chances are if you live in a climate where rain while camping is a real possibility, you probably already have a decent set of rain gear. But you should pick up a few of those emergency ponchos at the dollar store for a few different reasons.
First, sometimes you might be out hiking or maybe having to run an errand by walking to a local store. It might not be rain but if the weather is cloudy, you can pop one of those ponchos in your pocket before setting out.
Second, sometimes you might have guests staying with you in your RV who might not think to bring rain gear with them. So you have an emergency solution for rain gear for them if needed.
Lastly, think pay it forward. You might see someone in the campground or RV park struggling to set up their site without rain gear, you can give them a couple of these ponchos. For something that costs a dollar or less, you can make someone’s day with this!
If you want to reuse these ponchos, since most just come in plastic wrap, you would need something like a ziploc bag to store them in. Just make sure they are dry first before storing. However, they won’t fit as perfectly as they originally came in, so don’t expect you can fold them into the nice thin square. But these are pretty cheap to replace when you use them, unless you find that you are using them all the time!
You can sometimes find deals on inexpensive rain coats as well at the dollar store, but they will be pretty lightweight. But again, great for emergency use!
One last tip, keep one of these ponchos in on of the outdoor storage compartments, that way you can grab one quickly without having to go into the trailer, which can be great if you are soaking wet and muddy!
Do keep in mind that these shouldn’t replace your regular rain gear, especially if you are traveling in rainy climates. But these are an awesome backup.
If you can’t find them at the dollar store, they are almost as cheap on Amazon and for a five pack. You can get them in assorted colors or clear, but you can also get yellow or red only, if you want to be a bit more visible.
