All About Heated RV Water Hoses for Winter, Spring and Fall RVing

January 16, 2021 by RV Chick Leave a Comment

If you are doing any RV in when the weather gets a bit colder, you need to be concerned about your water hoses and if it is cold enough to freeze the water in the hoses. Whenever the temperature gets below freezing, there’s a major concern that it can burst not only the water hoses but also the water lines inside the RV.

For one solution, heated water hoses are available to use as water line protection against freezing. There are generally two different types of hoses available, one for freezing protection down to -20 degrees Fahrenheit and another that’s good to about -40 degrees Fahrenheit.  hoses feature an insulated covering of the hose as well as a heated layer that keeps the water inside the hose from freezing.

This means you can continue to have fresh water inside your RV, as well as heated water running through your internal RV water lines as well.   Of course, if you’re camping in very cold temperatures, it’s always best to leave your cabinets open underneath the sink, as well as anywhere else your water lines run so that the heated air from inside the RV will be able to reach those places as well.

You do require an electrical outlet in order to use the RV hose, but if you are connected to a water source, there’s very likely electrical access as well.  Depending on the hose, you may need an extension cord for it to reach.

The hose won’t feel hot or warm when you touch it,  and the thermostat will automatically turn on the heat as needed and then turn it off to conserve energy.

The water hoses come in three different sizes, 12 foot, 25 foot, or 50 foot. Obviously the longer the length of the more electricity will be used, if you are also paying for the amount of electricity used at your park, but the cost shouldn’t be too noticeably different between them.

Don’t think of this as being a replacement for a hot water heater, however, as the water won’t be warm enough to be used as hot water, such as for a shower. This hose is just for keeping the temperature high enough to prevent the water hose from freezing.

But if you are needing to RV when the temperatures drop and you want the convenience of staying connected to water, a heated hose is a great solution.

Here are the hoses that are good to -20F temperatures –  the first one listed is currently on sale and is the best price for the length:
